Geoff McNeely passed away surrounded by love after battling glioblastoma/brain cancer. He was a husband, father, technologist, thinker, creator, collaborator, and deeply curious human being whose ideas and generosity touched people across many communities. Born on September 11, 1970, Geoff was known for his sharp mind, inventive spirit, and ability to connect deeply with others through conversation, creativity, and big ideas. He worked in technology for many years, including work connected to Microsoft AT&T and collaborative projects with friends and colleagues around the world. He loved exploring systems, theories, emerging technology, and community-centered ways of thinking about the future. Above all else, Geoff loved his family. He is survived by his mother Marjorie, Father Warren, sister Erin, his wife, Kristin, and their children, Kenzie(20), Hazel(17) and Zazen (14), along with many friends, collaborators, and loved ones who experienced his humor, kindness, intelligence, and unique perspective on life. Geoff believed in tending possibilities rather than chasing status. He saw ideas, communities, and businesses as living systems to nurture—“seed forests, not factories,” as he once wrote. Even during illness, Geoff continued sharing ideas, stories, and moments of connection with the people around him. His friends describe him as brilliant, generous, funny, thoughtful, and endlessly interesting to talk to, confirmed by nurses that spent time with him early in April. A memorial and celebration of life are being planned, and if there is another site that’s good for posting any pictures or memories that you have and would like to share about Geoff at https://bit.ly/4uu7HR0.
